"Navigating the flow of words is a traveling Franco-British exhibition highlighting the ancient and deep ties that unite Normandy and England.
Through a dozen bilingual panels, it explores in an accessible way the linguistic exchanges between Norman French and British English, revealing how words, sounds, and ideas have circulated across the English Channel for over a millennium.
This exhibition will be accompanied by an original artistic intervention, designed by English artist Emma Dawson Varughese in close collaboration with a French participant. Thought of as a connecting thread between the two countries, this creation will travel from one site to another and will interact with the panels through a sensitive and contemporary approach.
The journey will begin at MRSH in Caen, where visitors will discover the exhibition and its first artistic staging. The panels will remain accessible for several days, while the artistic intervention will then be transported to the second host location: the medieval All Saints Church in Dilhorne (UK), a remarkable building whose octagonal base of the belfry seems to be constructed from Caen stone—a architectural symbol of the centuries-old exchanges between the two regions.
The exhibition incorporates interactive elements, content tailored for students, and a work designed to spark curiosity, understanding, and dialogue between French and British audiences.
By bringing together medieval heritage, language, contemporary art, and cultural mediation, this exhibition offers a unique experience: to rediscover a shared history where the English Channel has never been a border, but a living link between two cultures."
