"Venables, at the origins of feudal Normandy," offers an immersive 3D depiction of the motte castrale of Venables, as it may have appeared in the 11th century, accompanied by an interactive digital tour accessible via an app. The project invites the public to discover a key site of the early days of feudal Normandy and to understand the fundamental role of these early earthen and wooden fortifications, the ancestors of medieval castles. The tour takes the form of a structured circuit with seven points of interest, allowing a progressive and autonomous exploration of the site. Supported by the latest scientific research, the mediation highlights the strategic importance of Venables, at the heart of the rivalries between Frankish and Norman counts in the 11th century. The figures of Mauger de Venables and then Gilbert de Venables embody this pivotal period and help to better understand the formation and affirmation of Norman power.
