University study day
09 April 2027
The place of Lillebonne in the Duchy of Normandy at the time of William the Conqueror
The study day proposes to place Lillebonne, its history, and its heritage within a broader medieval framework, both chronologically and geographically.
It examines the city's role in the constitution of Normandy, as well as its relationships with its immediate environment — particularly the abbeys of the Seine valley — and more distant connections, especially with England after the conquest of 1066.
The study day relies on the medieval remains of Lillebonne as a starting point for a cultural mediation approach open to a wide audience: high school students, residents, cultural mediation professionals, and researchers. It aims to promote local heritage while integrating it into the political, religious, and cultural dynamics of medieval Normandy.
Organized in the form of lectures, the day brings together established researchers and doctoral students who specialize in the period, combining scientific approaches and knowledge transmission. It establishes Lillebonne as a key site for understanding medieval issues on a regional and cross-Channel scale.
