Conference

Stéphane Lecouteux, research engineer and head of the Library, Heritage and Mediation sector at Normandie Livre & Lecture, associate member of CRAHAM – University of Caen Normandy, proposes to dive into the heart of the copying workshop of the abbey of Mont-Saint-Michel between 980 and 1100.

Based on the study of parchments, inks, writings, and illuminated decorations, he reveals the evolution of the practices of copyists and illuminators and shows how the Mont-Saint-Michel scriptorium plays a major role in the development of Romanesque art in Normandy. An exciting exploration of books as works of art and witnesses of a Middle Ages in full intellectual effervescence.
