Conference

Alban Gautier, professor of medieval history at the University of Caen Normandy and member of CRAHAM, proposes to shift the focus to a territory often overlooked: England before 1066.

While the duchy of William the Conqueror is well known in Normandy, the kingdom he is about to conquer is much less so. On the eve of the Battle of Hastings, who are King Harold, his elites, his government, and his inhabitants? By placing William's victory in this specific context, this conference allows for a better understanding of what it permanently changes for England and for European history.
