Views on the Norman skies in art

The exhibition "Skies, My Normandy!" embarks on the discovery of the Norman sky, an unchanging support of our imagination and projections, which became a significant part of our identity in the 19th century.

Exploring the sky of Normandy in art is to engage in a narrative that merges with the history of art. From the sky as a divine space, approached in the art of stained glass and medieval mosaics, to the skies of modern and contemporary artists, through classical and romantic painters, the exhibition aims to showcase the rich palette of Norman skies where it is said that one can see the four seasons unfold in a single day.

Paintings, photographs, watercolors, drawings, engravings, and text excerpts will illuminate the different ways to represent or describe the Norman sky, and will question the mental image we have of it.

The exhibition features works by Norman and/or European artists, coming from Norman and/or European museums, and confronts old visions with contemporary creations. It takes visitors on a poetic journey where the sky, although often treated in art as just a landscape element, becomes the main subject of our attention and that of the artists.
