History and Memories of Notable Normans

The 62nd Congress of the Federation of Historical and Archaeological Societies of Normandy will take place in October 2027 in Évreux, bringing together French and foreign specialists as well as local historians around the great figures who have marked the history of Normandy.

The program highlights the ducal couple William and Matilda and the Norman 11th century, and then opens up to other personalities from Norman England and Italy, as well as major figures from more recent periods, such as Nicolas Oresme, Bertrand du Guesclin, Pierre-Daniel Huet, Guillaume Thouret, Gustave Flaubert, or Guy de Maupassant.

The presentations, proposed by members of the societies affiliated with the federation, focus on political, religious, intellectual, artistic, or economic personalities, as well as social groups and environments. Studies dedicated to women are particularly encouraged. The approaches favor renewed perspectives, whether individual or collective, going beyond the most well-known biographies.
