The Bayeux Tapestry tells the epic tale of William the Conqueror's conquest, highlighting battles and victories. Yet in its margins, almost silently, other lives are at work. It is in this discreet space that the spectacle takes shape.

In the background of the great heroes, hands toil tirelessly: they cut, build, dig, nourish, and repair. Cooks, laborers, carpenters, shipbuilders, and peasants do not conquer but make the conquest possible.
