22 May 2027

Playful conference with two voices

A conference highlights the figure of Arlette, mother of William the Conqueror, through an illustrated talk combining historical research and theatrical creation.
The work of medievalist Véronique Gazeau, professor emeritus at the University of Caen-Normandy, unfolds in dialogue with excerpts from the show Arlette, 1010 years, read by Dominique Birien, author and actress from the Mine d’Or company.

This meeting offers a sensitive and renewed insight into Arlette's journey, intersecting scientific analysis and artistic voice, and allows for questioning the role of women in the entourage of Norman power in the 11th century.

The conference is part of an exceptional opening of the exhibition "William, Matilda, and their relatives (1027-1135)" at the Archives of Calvados, accessible from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
